                                                        Watch what you watch

Trust me, one the ways through which I learn is via movies... ooh I love movies. Good movies dont just keep you in suspense but teach you good things on the ethics of our world. The fact that they are visuals makes it easy for us to go through them for hours without blinking for a seconds, thus learning become easy.Prison break, Lady of the rose, The rich also cry, Secreet of the sand, House of card, Game of the throne, Scandal, Suit, How to get away with murder to mention but a few are part of the movies that I will love to always watch, I deliberately keep them on my computer for easy references. Anytime I wanna say anything that has to do in the line of any of them, I go straight to my computer and dig out information as regards such topic. Suit, Scandal, how to get away with murder are currently giving me insight into the world of legal profession while Game of throne, House of card etc teach me on how to rule and lead no matter the condition around me; Lady of the rose, secreet of the sand say much more to me on the matter concerning opposite sex emotion and also not to toy with them.

In all of these, one thing is certain for me, movies on its own is a form of education provided it is channel in the right way. Be that as it may, there is something that I see much more than ever before now in all the movies that I tend to see these days and this is on the issue of gay and lesbian relationship. I see a kind of war aiming at the righteous ones via the media and because these movies are somehow educative and interesting a lot are happening to us unconsciously in a negative way.

As a broadcaster, I think I can say a bit of things about the media world. Lets not deceive ourselves, media will sell to us what ordinarily we will not love to buy; that is the sole aim of media or advertisment world - to make right the wrong in people's eyes.  I will never tell anybody to stop watching movies ( I love it myself) but then lets try and be on alert with what we feed our eyes on these days so that we will not be caught unaware.

BUHARI AND JONATHAN: TWO HEROES OF CIRCUMSTANCE

BUHARI AND JONATHAN: TWO HEROES OF CIRCUMSTANCE

Nigeria is a droll country filled with complex personalities utterly in need of serious psychological assessment. Not long ago, President Goodluck Jonathan was called names: a demon, a cankerworm that has eaten deep into the fabric of the nation. He was castigated for wrecking the economy and the country as a whole. And so, he must go!  From the other side there was the heroic Rtd. General Muhammadu Buhari for whom majority of the Nigerian masses were ready cast their votes in the March 28 presidential election. He was the one with the Midas touch, the one who has solution to the series of problems afflicting Nigeria. Though he had some skeleton in the cupboard when he was the military head of state for his hardened measures on discipline and crimes, he was quickly forgiven. He was now the hero. Thus the battle for the tenancy of Aso Rock was between the 'demonic' President Jonathan and virtuous General Muhammadu Buhari.

The battle, very fiercely contested, came and passed; the saint defeated the demon. Congratulations! Surprisingly though, many Nigerians rushed to the Facebook, the platform of their armchair activism, to commend the courage of the demonic president who was so honourable in defeat. And for this singular democratic gesture, the demonic president suddenly became a hero. One comedian even put a clarion call on Facebook for Nigerians to nominate Jonathan for Peace Nobel Prize. In a twinkle of eye, Jonathan also became a hero. Interesting! Now we have two heroes: president elect Muhammadu Buhari and President Goodluck Jonathan; the former for deposing a demonic emperor and the later for gently accepting to vacate Aso Rock. Remarkable!

For me, these two are no heroes. Or put appropriately, they are mere heroes of circumstance. The deplorable situation the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan has left Nigerians is such unbearable that anybody that promises to/ has the slightest chance to rescue them will be welcomed, as a hero. The situation is analogous to that of a dog that is terribly thirsty and is already on the verge of death, anybody that can provide water at that moment is its hero, and can do with it whatever he/she likes. This is where the APC and General Muhammadu Buhari come in. If Nigerians said NO to APC and Buhari, who could they have said YES to? To professor Sonaiya? Apparently, there was no other option. So, Muhammadu Buhari became thevhero. Fortunately, Jonathan, having tried unsuccessfully to make sure he held the key to Aso Rock till 2019, resigned to fate, tamed his political dogs and accepted his defeat honourably. Let me ask, if he didn’t do that, what better option had he?
However, I sincerely do not wish to belittle President Jonathan’s honourable acceptance of defeat, it’s a commendable act. I am just uncomfortable with the way some Nigerians have over-amplified it. It leaves me with a terrible feeling that Nigerians are confused and do not really know what leadership means; that you are an enemy to Nigerians when you hold a political office and you become their dearest friend immediately you are out of the office. Is it so?

In this just concluded elections, the victory isn’t that of the APC. It is the victory of Democracy. The true heroes are the awakened Nigerians who voted with their heads and not their hearts and our democracy which has taken a great dive towards positive development. President Goodluck Jonathan and President elect Muhammadu Buhari are just heroes of circumstance.

           WHERE LIES POWER?

Power according to the definition we are familiar with is the ability to cause things to happen or bring things into existence. Truthfully speaking, I agree with this definition and not just that but also subscribe to it. Despite this definition of power, there is also something that is very crucial to know which has to do with the perception of power. When a huge man, with dispaly muscle all over his body stands beside a slim man, such a huge man to some might be seen as a powerful man. In this same vein, a man may be perceived to be powerful if he/she seems deep in the religion such an individual belongs to. Thus, it is important for us to know here that power exist where we feel it exist.

With this in mind, it shouldnt be diffcult for us to know why some people in our society seem to be powerful and dominating in the rulling of our land. These people, the rulers, know that for you to be seen as powerful, you need to create yourself as God in the life of those you want to lead. Sadly, not even the so-called graduates among us know that there is power lying inside of them, only waiting for a tap. While some others seem to know yet hang the demostration of their power on the situations of the land.

Power will never come or appear in the lifes of the weak but the bold. So if truly we want to move up and soar high, we need to deal with our weakness and concentrate more on our strenght. The likes of Alinko Dangote, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gate, Bola Tinubu, Barack Obama, Ussain Bolt e.t.c would have been in their closet with no popularity should they focus on their weakness and forget their strenght. Before I go, a word of advice: it will never be completely all right until you step into your situation by yourself. Make no mistake, the wind of change slogan going on in this land at present is not going to give change to anyone on a platter of gold. The change will only come when we brace up for the challenges ahead.

On the note of conclusion, lets look at this example. Three men stood in a house one day, the number one is a hunter with gun in his hand, the second one, the richest man in the land while the last one is the king. Of these three men, who do we call the powerful man? The hunter may seem poor of the three but has gun which can send the remaining two out of this word in a matter of seconds. The richest man of the land who happen to be the second man can decide to buy everything that king and the hunter have without feeling it in his pocket. Then the king, the commander of the territory who can give a command and the hunter with the rich man cease to be. So, with this illustration, it is somehow diffcult to locate where the power lies among those three men. Thus we go back to our question, where lies power?

THE POWER OF A SIMPLE HUGS

A hug is a wonderful thing. It is a marvelous gift to share. It is a grand way to say; “I care”. A hug communicates support, security, affection, unity and belonging. A hug shows compassion. A hug brings delight. A hug charms the senses. A hug touches the soul.

Hugs are healthy. Hugs ease pain, reduce stress, cure depression, induce sleep, rejuvenate the heart, and yet have no side effects. It is a true miraculous medicine.
A hug can say, “I love you”. A hug can say, “I hate to see you go”. A hug can say, “It’s good to have you back.” A hug can say, “I feel your pain.” A hug can say, “Let me share your burden.”

No matter whether you’re the sender or receiver, hugs touch the inner being. From friends, to family, to loved ones, to those in need; a hug warms the heart.
A hug is truly amazing. It gives conscience and purpose to sharing of self. It brings generosity to giver and happiness to the receiver. It brings blessings to those who give and joy to those who receive.
Hugs are one of the reasons God gave us arms. So, stretch out your arms to someone today. Reach out to those you love. It will warm the heart of the giver and give light to the soul of the recipient.

Reach out to your neighbours, it will show that you care. Reach out to one in need, it will show that you are responsible. Reach out to the world, it will show God that you care for his creation. Consider yourself hugged by me now. Above all, remember that angel hugs are around you always

LET GO OF “THE ME”, LET IN “THE WE”

At the base of every problem the world is experiencing today is the “Me”.  The “Me” here implies my selfish interest. My "self centeredness", my self will, “my o my. . .” are all expressions of the “Me”. It is that ego in me that seek only my own thing even to the detriment of the right of others. The “Me” seek only his own thing at all cost not minding whose ox is gourd. The ugly face of the “Me”, you will find in family where the father only calls the shot in a military style.

The “Me” shows up on the road where lawlessness becomes the order of the day. People suffering from the “Me” syndrome break traffic rules at will and never shows any sigh of consideration for other road users such as the pedestrians and motorists. The “Me” culture celebrates illegality and impunity as a norm. The “Me” makes the boss monstrous in an organization; it equally makes the subordinates lethargic. The “Me” kills creativity and stunt progress of institution. Great edifice is reduced to a mere shadowy place of grass when “the Me” plays itself out. Religious altars that perpetrate “the Me” become a citadel of heresies. The glorious future of children is messed up when “the Me” shows up in their life.

Leadership failure in our world today is as a result of character failure whose root is traceable to the “Me” culture. A situation where a leader would prefer his mediocre folks to the meticulous and better exposed outsiders is as result of the “Me” disease running in his vein. Corruption in the nation is traceable to the “Me” syndrome. A leader would steal money not just to meet his immediate needs or that of his family and friends but also for the generation yet unborn in his lineage. Remove the “Me” culture, then our economy will heave a sigh of relief.

“The Me” however was never meant to be a bad idea by our maker but as a tool for our development and a ladder to our next level. However, “the Me” is playing a fast one on us and it is now acting as clog in the wheel of our progress. We must therefore, make a switch from the damning “the Me” to the demanding “the We” if we desire to attain the next level we desire. “The We” entails selfless living, seeking not only our own thing but a collective interest. “The We” means making effort to consider every opinion that count and tolerate every voice even though it does not agree with our own. “The We” is an umbrella of all interest and a rallying point of all ideas.

Our greatness as a nation rest on the shoulders of all so with “the We” culture, we will achieve that intrinsic but seemingly elusive greatness.  “The Me” in our bosom must go for the wisdom of the well encompassing “the We”.

Let out “the Me” and let in “the We”.

From infancy to grave, the quest for knowledge remains optimum at the forefront of man's goal. He believes that in knowledge lies victory, hence, he makes his research both within and without. Human is not left alone in this as also animals have their ways of learning in order to be relevant in their domain. Making other animal a prey in the hand of the mighty ones is a skill an animal must learn  to survive in the jungles. Thus knowledge becomes a tool of survival for whosoever desire to move up in life

However, as much important as knowledge is, it is important to know that knowledge not act upon remains nothing but a castle in the air. It is of no surprise for that popular adage that says 'when a purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable.'  This is why at 460degree we believe in adequate information and education which is the hallmark of journalism, as our vision and our goal.

I therefore welcome you into a new season of information and education. Feel free to post your comment on our blog and don't forget to call our attention to any post you may find unclear to you. We are here to serve you better. Once again, welcome.
